Today’s announcement that Southern Launch has gained a license for the operation of this Whalers Way facility is very exciting news for South Australia and more particularly the Eyre Peninsula the Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey stated.
“There is enormous potential development in the growth of this industry with some projections envisaging billions of dollars.
“Whilst it’s early days the fact that Southern Launch has been able to win this license is a significant step and is underwritten by their proven ability from last year to launch from their Koonibba site,” Mr Ramsey said.
“Congratulations to the Southern Launch team, this is a very important day for them.”
“The strong support from the South Australian Government has also made its mark and the announcement today along with the establishment of the Australian Space Agency at Lot 14 in Adelaide is a strong indication of the role that South Australia has to play in this global industry.”
Federal Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Christian Porter congratulated Southern Launch on the approval, which he said was an important step forward in establishing Australia’s commercial launch capabilities.
“The global space launch services market is expected to reach US$29.6 billion by 2027. Australia has a unique opportunity to be part of this exciting and growing industry, given our geographical advantages which make us an attractive destination for launch activities,” Minister Porter said.
“Building our capability in this area will also help to unlock significant opportunities for local industries and drive job growth across the advanced manufacturing sector.”
