Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said he is pleased to announce more Federal investment into local roads.
“I am really pleased the Australian Government has committed funding of $1,450,000 toward the widening of the road seal of 20 curves on the Tod Highway and 12 curves on the Birdseye Highway,” Mr Ramsey said.
“These improvements will improve safety and reduce the risk of head-on and lost-control crashes on curves.
“The Tod Highway is a heavily utilised route for heavy vehicles who share the road with cars, travellers and tourists.
“I am also pleased we have committed $1,425,000 toward the construction of a new rest area and the upgrade of an existing rest area on the Lincoln Highway about 100kms south of Whyalla.
“The Lincoln Highway is a heavily utilised route for heavy vehicles who share the road with cars, travellers and tourists
“The highway will soon be more efficient, more reliable and safer thanks to upgrades being funded under round six of the Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.
“We all understand how important it is to upgrade these roads – we all drive them often and see firsthand the jobs and opportunities agriculture and transport brings to Grey.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the program provides funding to local councils and State and Territory Governments to help fund works designed to improve the safety and efficiency of important heavy vehicle routes around the nation.
“Around Australia we are investing in helping people get home sooner and safer, no matter where they live,” Mr McCormack said.
“That’s why we are continuing to deliver road funding where it’s needed, based mainly on the local knowledge, especially to councils which make up more than 60 per cent of the 93 projects selected under this latest round of funding.”
