Ramsey Welcomes Strategic Partnership Between GFG Alliance and Zen
Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has welcomed the announcement that new owner of Arrium, GFG Alliance has acquired a significant stake in energy company Zen Energy.
“Sanjeev Gupta, who heads GFG Alliance, clearly understands energy is the major issue facing South Australians,” he said.
“The unreliability and cost of energy here is a genuine long-term threat to all industries in SA including his newly acquired assets in Whyalla.
“Mr Gupta has come to the same conclusion as me in that renewable energy must be accompanied by storage and his preliminary proposal to set-up a pumped-hydro facility in a disused mine in the Middleback Ranges is probably the most welcome and interesting piece of news to come out of this announcement.”
Mr Ramsey said currently renewable energy in Australia is propped up by strong subsidies, but that the sector needs to become more competitive and stand on its own merits into the future.
Zen Energy is an Australian leader in solar energy generation and storage solutions and the marriage between Liberty OneSteel and Zen bodes well for a prosperous, sustainable future for both.”
