Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey is pleased to announce funding for the Broughton Valley Road Bridge replacement under round three of the Federal Government’s Bridges Renewal Program.
Northern Areas Council will receive $192,096 toward the bridge replacement located near Spalding in the mid north.
Mr Ramsey said the bridge is vital infrastructure in the region with the existing bridge not fit for the heavy use required.
“Northern Areas Council has owned and maintained a bridge for some time, but the condition of the bridge was poor,” he said.
“Clare Quarry has already spent a considerable amount restoring the old bridge following damage from the most recent floods and is now contributing to the building of a new bridge.
“I visited the site recently and was very impressed by the management of the bridge project, the quarry and plans Clare Quarry have in place for a long-term commitment to the area and possible expansion.
“This bridge is vital to the viability of the quarry and region and I briefed the Minister following my visit and advised him of the importance of replacing the existing bridge.
“I am very pleased with today’s commitment from the Coalition Government and it is proof we are backing business and regional jobs.”
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester said the $162.53 million funding toward round three of the Bridges Renewal program was in addition to the $216 million committed under the first two rounds.
“The renewal and upgrade of 186 bridges under this round will deliver social and economic benefits throughout regional Australia,” Mr Chester said.
The Federal Government’s financial commitment in this round will be matched by successful proponents. To allow for a wider distribution of projects, the Australian Government’s contribution under round three has been limited to $5 million per project.
