Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has commended Port Lincoln RSL Sub Branch on receiving Federal Government funding to develop its project to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of the First World War.
“The Port Lincoln RSL Sub Branch will receive $3000 to preserve First World War military exhibits and memorabilia through the installation of high ultra violet block-out film at the branch,” he said.
“This project will be a fitting tribute to appropriately acknowledge the end of the war 100 years ago and preserve the collection for future generations to enjoy.”
Port Lincoln RSL Sub Branch represents a number of successful applicants receiving funding for community projects to commemorate Australia’s wartime history and the 100th anniversary of the Armistice recently announced by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Darren Chester.
“Commemorating this important date in our history is a true testament to the success of the Anzac Centenary 2014-18 and I have no doubt this will create a lasting legacy of remembrance,” Mr Ramsey said.
“These grants have been designed to deliver local projects and activities to communities like ours to commemorate Australia’s role in the First World War and pay tribute to service men and women and the Armistice Centenary.
“The commitment of organisations such as the Port Lincoln RSL Sub Branch ensures communities like ours can preserve our local history for future generations.”
Under the Armistice Centenary Grants Program every electorate in Australia will receive up to $50,000 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice of the First World War.
