Regional Boost for Melrose under Building Better Regions Fund

The Melrose community is set to receive a boost, following the announcement of two successful projects under the Building Better Regions Fund – Community Investment stream.

Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said the Coalition Government’s investment of more than $230,000 in Grey, to support seven community-based projects, was a positive for the region’s future.

The successful projects at Melrose are:

• The Strategic Plan for Cycling Growth and Development Opportunities project which will receive $18,000 to create a master plan outlining a five year strategy for the development of sustainable cycling trails in the Melrose district, including a feasibility study and action plan.
• The Research Study on the Regional Economic Benefit of Cycling Events project, which will receive $18,000 to undertake an economic benefit analysis of two major cycling events within the Southern Flinders Ranges region of South Australia in order to collect statistical data to be shared with local and state government organisations, clubs and businesses.

“This is a fantastic outcome for Melrose which is a blossoming tourist and cycling destination and these successful projects will deliver significant benefits to the region,” Mr Ramsey said.

“Promoting cycling and tourism in Melrose will drive economic growth and transform communities, ensuring that our region remains resilient and prosperous into the future.”

Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said the Building Better Regions Fund continues to deliver major benefits for rural, regional and remote communities throughout Australia.

“Under round two, the Coalition Government is investing more than $4 million in over 100 community investment stream projects across Australia, valued at over $7.3 million,” Minister McVeigh said.

“This is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs which will beef up local economies.”

The Coalition Government has invested an additional $200 million in the 2018-19 Federal Budget to deliver another round of the Building Better Regions Fund. Successful projects for round two of the Infrastructure stream will be announced in the near future.
