Burra Community and Sports Club to benefit from Stronger Communities Grant
The Burra Community and Sports Club will install a disability access ramp with funding through Round 5 of the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program.
Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said he is very pleased the funding of $8500 will enable the upgrade to proceed.
“The club has taken the step of building a wheelchair access ramp to be inclusive of everyone in their community and I appluad this,” he said.
“The oval is used extensively for local sporting and cultural events and currently access to the oval from the viewing area is not available for wheelchair and other mobility aids or for families with prams and young children who find the steps daunting.
“A ramp would provide a safer and easier access to the oval for the mobility impaired, elderly citizens, injured players to and from the playing surface to the clubrooms.
“Often people with a disability are not simply disabled by their bodies, but by the way society is organised and the fact many places do not have ramps for easy access.
“The Burra Community and Sports Club will become a place where all are able to freely enjoy the amenities and I congratulate the club on their successful application.”
The Coalition Government’s Stronger Communities Programme offers grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 for small capital projects.
