Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has welcomed today’s news that two official bids have been placed for the take-over of Arrium, which includes the Whyalla assets.
Mr Ramsey said Arrium had been in administration for more than a year and the Federal Government had invested $120m to improve the bottom line of the Whyalla assets, which included the steelworks.
“I know it’s been a long drawn out process which has put some pressure on the local community, but the fact that we actually have two official bids today greatly increases the prospects of a successful sale and provides some level of certainty,” Mr Ramsey said.
“The two bids will be assessed over the next week or two by the administrator and it is very pleasing that they have both lodged their Foreign Investment Review Board applications, which is a strong signal of their intent.”
Mr Ramsey said the Federal Government would continue to negotiate with bidders over any possible assistance needed to complete the sale.
“I remain confident of a successful outcome and will do everything within my power to achieve job securities for Whyalla.”
