Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said he is pleased to announce aged care funding totalling almost $4 million for Whyalla Aged Care. “This is fantastic news for Whyalla aged care and for families looking for good options for their loved ones”, Mr Ramsey said.
“The 2016-17 Aged Care Approvals Round has allocated Whyalla Aged Care $3 million in capital grants funding with re-current funding for 13 dementia care places and one respite care place totalling $917,000.
“With our rapidly ageing population, the Australian Government is committed to providing a sustainable aged care system that meets the needs of our older Australians.”
Whyalla Aged Care is a not for profit community owned organisation and an approved provider of aged care services including residential care, community care and retirement living for elderly people in Whyalla and surrounding communities.
“This comes on top of the $4m Federal Government contribution supporting the building of the Cedar Wing which was opened in April last year and underlines the government’s increasing contribution to aged care in Australia.” Mr Ramsey said this latest allocation means there are now more than 1600 Commonwealth funded residential aged care places in the Grey electorate.
“Whyalla Aged Care is an excellent provider of aged care in the region and offers the elderly and their families a safe transition into care at a vulnerable stage of life.” Mr Ramsey said. “The increasing numbers of Home Care Packages are wonderful and enable more people to stay in their homes longer and more safely, but for many there still comes a time when that option is not viable and with the loss of physical and cognitive function seniors need residential care.
“Increased funding for capital works and additional places will enable Whyalla Aged Car to continue and expand their capacity to provide care for the region’s elderly.”
