Federal Member for Grey Rowan says the State Liberal announcement to fix the Port Wakefield intersection will provide a direct dividend for eighty percent of the Grey electorate and an economic boost for the rest of the state.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Fraser Ellis and Kendall Jackson our state candidates in Narungga and Frome in making sure this project is on the State Liberal ‘will do’ list,” Mr Ramsey said.
“For years the intersection of the Augusta and Copper Coast Highways has been a huge frustration for holiday makers and truckies alike. Not only frustrating, from time to time sadly, it has also been the site of serious accidents, so at last it is tremendous to see a firm commitment from the State Liberals.
“The State Liberal team and I have had extensive discussions with a range of Federal Ministers last year and I was extremely pleased when Transport Minister Darren Chester allocated funds to plan for upgrades along the length of the Prince’s Highway of which the Augusta Highway is a part.
“The project has my full support and I am confident a solid commitment will be forthcoming from the minister.
“Those who live in the north and west of the state know that is where the vast bulk of the state’s natural resources are and those riches will provide the jobs which will underwrite the state’s economy for generations. Consequently traffic loads will continue to grow and improving the main arterial freight routes is essential to fully exploit our natural wealth.
“This should be just the first essential step in duplication of the whole route from Port Wakefield to Port Augusta. It is a great start.”
