Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey said he is excited to announce Port Pirie will be the site of one of ten Industry Training Hubs around Australia.
“The PrimeMinister has announced $50.6m for ten of these hubs and I am exceptionally pleased to have secured one of them for Port Pirie,” Mr Ramsey said.
“This expenditure has been factored into the budget and will commence in the second half of this year.
“While Port Pirie is a great place to work and live it has an unacceptably high rate of unemployed youth. This hub will set out a path for our young citizens to gain employment.
“As a Government we have done well with bringing down the rate of young Australians without a job but there is always more we can do. It is necessary to take every opportunity to prepare young people for the workforce with the skills and knowledge they need.
“Last year a record number of more than 100,000 young Australians secured work for the first time, but there are still localities where youth unemployment numbers are too high and we must bring them under control which is why we are investing in this program.”
“The Government’s policy settings are creating record jobs growth across Australia with almost 1.3 million extra jobs since the Coalition came to office.
“The Hub site will have a physical footprint but without re-inventing the wheel it will be tasked with working in-step with schools, other agencies and industry to bring about real advancement.
“We have already announced a strong investment in skills in the budget and more support for apprentices. This is coupled with more support for employers to take on apprentices the new tradies of the future. Along with these 10 new targeted skills hubs, located in the areas of persistently high youth unemployment, young people will have more support to transition from school through to trades into employment.”
