Federal Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey has welcomed the end of a tumultuous week and said he is glad the turmoil in the Liberal Party is now behind them.
“I have been very disappointed with the events which unfolded this week and look forward to putting it behind us,” he said. “However it was essential we settled the leadership issue before returning to our electorates.“
“Scott Morrison has won the leadership vote and I am confident he has the qualities it requires to make an excellent Prime Minister.
“He has been an exceptional Minister- firstly as Minister for Immigration where he successfully stopped the boats and secondly who as a Treasurer has reconstructed the finances of Australia and scheduled to return the budget to surplus next year. His management has provided record jobs growth and even with the budgetary constraints has finance the biggest infrastructure and defence investment ever in our history
“I am also very pleased with the election of Josh Frydenberg as Deputy Leader. Josh is extremly popular and is regarded as a hardworking and excellent Minister and will support the Prime Minister well.”
Mr Ramsey said Malcolm Turnbull had proven success as Prime Minister and will leave a great legacy for all Australians.
“I believe history will judge Malcolm Turnbull in a far kinder light than he has been judged in the short term.
“The reforms and successes of the Turnbull Government are testament to his ability as Prime Minister.
“But for now, I am looking forward to putting this difficult time behind us, to stop the conversation about ourselves and start talking about our Government and what we have achieved and will achieve.
“I will certainly focus on delivering the benefits of that good management to my electorate.”
