Last week award winning Bungala Food Service was visited by the Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey and Liberal candidate Tom Venning who will run in his place at the coming election.
Mr Ramsey said he and Mr Venning had been travelling the electorate getting an update on projects and ambitions of communities while providing a great opportunity for Mr Venning to get better acquainted with the people and the possibilities of Grey.
“We were particularly impressed with Bungala Food Services, a place I had visited before,” Mr Ramsey said. “It is simply first class and delivered more than 150 meals in the morning before we arrived and supplying meals as far away as Oodnadatta has become an essential part of service delivery in the north of the state.
“The staff is friendly, hard-working and it is an indigenous success story. I absolutely congratulate delivery manager Nathan Freeman for his leadership of this operation, his skills and enthusiasm are exceptional.”
Mr Ramsey said BFS had outgrown its current premises and had secured the old Catholic Church Hall on Tassie St to relocate but needed a Federal Government grant to refit the facility.
“We have spent so much in the past of investing in ‘airy fairy’ work programs for indigenous peoples which were bound to fail”, Mr Ramsey said. “It’s time we stopped that and instead supported the success stories, the things we know work. Businesses like Bungala Food Services.”
“The Federal Government should step up now and provide the capital they need to develop Tassie Street and grow the already successful operation. Why they have not done so already is a mystery to me.”
“Tom Venning and I will be taking this project to our pre-election strategy team and seek a commitment to deliver the funding should we win government in the election due soon. Better still, would be the current government to take note and step up to the plate now.”
Mr Venning said travelling with travelling with Mr Ramsey was giving him an invaluable introduction to the electorate, its people and its possibilities.
“Whether or not I become the next Member for Grey will be up to the people, but if I do, I am working to ensure I can pick up from where Rowan left off and not start from scratch,” he said.
