Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey was in Port Lincoln last week and met with representatives of the City of Port Lincoln Council to discuss the key projects they believe will help grow and sustain Port Lincoln.
Mr Ramsey was accompanied by Liberal candidate for Grey Tom Venning.
“This has been a valuable exercise, I am travelling the electorate getting an update on the projects and ambitions of communities and it also provides a great opportunity for people to meet Mr Venning and should he be elected, for him to hit the ground running,” he said.
“Council is yet to finalise its pre-budget submission which at this stage contains a number of large and exciting proposals.
“Recently Council received some good news with success securing grant to replace the change-room/toilet block at Kirton Oval. However, council is still seeking support to complete the works including the car parking and we later inspected the site with Mayor Diana Mislov.
“I had met previously with the WCYCS to discuss plans to renovate and open the old Naval Cadet facility as emergency accommodation for homeless men.
“This is simply one of the best and cheapest per capita projects I have seen anywhere, and I am very surprised the Government has not jumped at funding it.
“For around $50k a unit, we could have 18 secure places for men to re-establish their lives and at time when we have a general housing crisis, people sleeping rough, on friends lounges, overcrowding houses or in their cars it simply needs to be done now!
Mr Ramsey said while he and Mr Venning could not access the site on the day owing to unavoidable circumstances, they did go and view what theycould beyond the fence.
“This just renewed our enthusiasm. We will both push for support through our pre-election channels,” he said.
“We also took the time to inspect the Verran Terrace – St Andrews crossing in the Mitre 10 part of town.
“At times negotiating the traffic with the adjacent turn-ins to the Bunnings area can be a challenge for the best of drivers.
“It’s an accident hotspot and should be addressed, a roundabout has been suggested and I in my opinion, the sooner the better.”
