Member for Grey Rowan Ramsey recognised the vital work of volunteers at a morning tea in Port Lincoln this week to mark International Volunteer Day. He presented 70 hard working community members of the Port Lincoln region with certificates of recognition and appreciation. Mr Ramsey said volunteers are the backbone of rural communities and without their contributions many of the services we take for granted simply would not exist. “The crucial contribution made by emergency services, sporting groups, social groups, aged care, those supporting the disadvantaged or the environment are an integral part of what makes our communities tick,” he said. “I am pleased to be able to recognise some of the volunteers here in the Port Lincoln district and acknowledge the selfless work they have done within their local community. “The recipients came from a broad cross-section of volunteer groups ranging from sporting groups, local schools, emergency services and social groups. “I encourage everyone to think about volunteering as they will find making their contribution a greatly rewarding experience. Volunteer workers make life-long friendships among their peers, learn new skills and take their appreciation of communities to another level” Approximately 300 people attended the function held at the Ravendale Sporting Complex.
